Exam Information
How the RLPE examination works, what it is intended to assess and how results are reported. Details are published here as they receive academic approval.
The exam at a glance
Items marked “pending approval” are not yet confirmed and must not be treated as official exam conditions.
How adaptive testing works
In an adaptive exam, the selection of tasks responds to the candidate’s answers, so that one exam can cover the whole range of levels instead of separate tests for each level.
For candidates this means one registration and one exam, regardless of their current level. The specific RLPE methodology — how tasks are selected and how the final level is determined — will be published after academic confirmation.
Proficiency levels A1–C2
The six CEFR levels are possible results of one RLPE exam — not six separate exams.
CEFR — the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Level names on this website are simplified for convenience and are not official CEFR descriptors. Score thresholds for each level are not yet published.
What the exam is intended to assess
All five skills are assessed on a computer; the speaking section is recorded through a headset microphone.

How results are reported
The intended result of the exam is one CEFR level, from A1 to C2, reflecting the level the candidate demonstrated.
RLPE certificates
The RLPE certificate is intended to state the CEFR level the candidate demonstrated. Employers and institutions will be able to check a certificate’s authenticity through the official NEN verification page.
